Obituary

Gloria Nameth Resnick, born on November 21, 1935, in Peoria, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, in West Palm Beach, Florida. She was surrounded by loved ones as she departed this world.

The cherished daughter of Sigmund Nameth and Rose Benn Nameth, Gloria was a first-generation American whose family roots traced back to Hungary. Her childhood unfolded amidst the warmth and simplicity of Mercedes, Texas, where her family relocated during her youth. There, she embraced the freedom of rural life—riding horses and even riding cows on the family farm, mastering the art of driving a stick-shift truck at just 12 years old, and basking in the sun along Padre Island’s sandy shores. Though her circle of friends was small, these relationships were profound and enduring.

Gloria’s first job was teller at a bank, where she met her future husband, Bertram Saul Resnick. He came in looking for leads to sell insurance policies but instead found the love of his life. Within less than a year, he would be paying on the policy Gloria had purchased—a humorous start to a marriage that would span 66 wonderful years.

Together, Gloria and Bert built a life filled with adventure and love. They spent nearly every summer traveling across the United States, Canada, and Mexico with their children, camping and exploring along the way. Gloria was also a successful businesswoman, co-owning two printing companies—The Instant Shop and Metrocrest Graphics—as well as a medical recording studio called Medi-sette.

Gloria’s lifelong love affair with books opened doors to countless worlds of imagination. She found solace and excitement in science fiction and adventure novels that sparked her curiosity about the unknown. Her passion for storytelling extended to classic television programs such as *The Outer Limits*, *Lost in Space*, *The Twilight Zone*, and *As The World Turns*. These stories became a shared language between Gloria and those who knew her best.

Gloria’s warmth and unyielding kindness left an indelible mark on everyone she met. She never spoke an unkind word about anyone—even if they deserved it—and her gentle nature made her a source of comfort for all who knew her. This compassion shone most brightly in her role as a mother. Gloria poured herself wholeheartedly into raising her children, serving as a Girl Scout leader, homeroom mother, and ever-reliable chauffeur to countless activities. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family; many saw in Gloria a surrogate mother whose wisdom and love enriched their lives.

Gloria held legendary game nights that often extended past 1:00 am. Whether it was card games or marathon sessions of Rummikub and Quirkle, these gatherings brought joy to all who participated. Her family will forever cherish the memory of those evenings spent laughing together around the table.

She is survived by her children: Caryl Abshire (James) of Rancho Murieta, California, their children Chris, Abbi, Lauren and Travis Abshire; Tanya Willis (Thomas Wiesbauer) of Royal Palm Beach, Florida and daughter Kendall Willis; Michael Resnick (Angelica) of Carrollton, Texas and their daughters Mia and Leah Resnick; and Michelle Beavers (David) of Grant, Florida and their children Theresa Parks, Tabitha Kriegh,  David, Tanya & Wyatt Beavers. Numerous great-grandchildren carry forward the legacy of love she so generously imparted. Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Bertram Saul Resnick; her parents; her brother, Retired Lt. Col. Maxie S. Nameth and grandsons Kyle James and Nathan Beavers.

Mom—your love for life was infectious, your kindness unparalleled. We will miss you deeply but find solace in the countless memories you created for us all. May your memory bring comfort to everyone who had the privilege to know you.
