**Obituary for Harold Homan**
**August 9, 1931 – October 26, 2025**
Harold K. Homan, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, was peacefully called to eternal rest on October 26, 2025, at the age of 94.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Harold A. and Mary E. Homan, Harold was the oldest of sixteen children. From an early age, he developed a strong sense of responsibility and care for others — traits that shaped the man he became. He was the steady center of a large and close-knit family, a fierce protector and guide whose strength was matched only by his deep compassion.
A man of unwavering Catholic faith, Harold lived each day grounded in prayer and service. His faith guided every decision, and he found great joy and purpose in living out the values of love, humility, and forgiveness. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Jude’s R.C. Church, where he served as a lector, CCD instructor, Eucharistic minister, head usher, and Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.
Harold shared a beautiful marriage of 61 years with his beloved wife, Mary Homan (Hennessey) — a partnership built on love, devotion, and understanding. Together in Hopatcong, NJ for 39 years they raised five children whose lives reflect the lessons their father lived: to love fiercely, protect family, and stand strong in faith. Harold’s pride extended to his fifteen grandchildren, each of whom he cherished deeply and prayed for daily.
He was a protector in every sense — of his faith, his family, and his values. Whether offering advice, lending a helping hand, or ensuring those around him felt safe and supported, Harold’s presence was a constant source of comfort and strength.
Harold retired from two distinguished careers: Western Union Telegraph Co., where he served as Assistant Chief Building Mechanic, and St. Clare’s Hospital Riverside, where he worked as Chief Engineer. Even after retiring, he continued to work until the age of 79 in loss prevention at BJ’s Wholesale Club, before finally retiring to Florida with Mary.
Throughout his life, Harold had a never-ending passion for learning. He earned numerous licenses and certifications, both professionally and as hobbies — including his U.S. Coast Guard Master Captain’s License and Stationary Engineer’s 2nd Class (Red Seal) License, among many others. Harold loved the outdoors- the woods, the water and the peacefulness they offered. Music accompanied him through every chapter of his life, bringing him joy and solace. He always enjoyed nature, the woods, and being on the water. Harold was also a long distance runner for many years.
Harold lived a life defined by hard work, love, and service to others, building a legacy of family, faith, and perseverance. His life will remain forever etched in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Harold was predeceased by his beloved wife of 61 years, Mary Hennessey Homan, and is survived by his five children: Dorothy Kiser (Scott), Barbara Artieta (David), Daniel Homan, Maryann Proper (Jim), and Kathleen Wagner (Robert). He leaves behind fifteen grandchildren — Jacquelyn Martin, Dianna Cihoski, Laura Homan, Kristin Lane (Tim), Brian Glueckert, Patrick Homan, Andrew Glueckert (Dana), Ashley Kiser, Alexis Kiser, Ryan McCloughy, Rene Homan, Sean McCloughy, Timothy Homan, Kendall Wagner, and Robbie Wagner — as well as eight great-grandchildren: Cyan Hale, Jonathon Martin, Cameron Homan, Emersyn Glueckert, Andrew Broncano, Jaxson Tomlin, Parker Lane, and Sullivan Lane. He is also survived by eight sisters and was predeceased by seven brothers.
A Catholic Mass and Memorial Service will be celebrated on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Lakeside Funeral Home and Cremation Care in Royal Palm Beach, Florida, with a private interment to follow at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Harold’s honor at www.stjude.org.
