Helen Watts Obituary

Helen Annette Watts

February 14, 1959 – April 22, 2022

Helen Annette Watts, 63, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 22, 2022, in Royal Palm Beach, Florida, surrounded by her family after bravely facing 2 different cancers over the past several months.

Helen was born on Valentine’s Day in 1959 in Washington, DC, how perfect since she was loved by so many!  She grew up in a warm, loving family with devoted parents and an older sister and brother always watching over her.

Helen attended Arundel High School, then went on to graduate from the University of Maryland where she majored in Paralegal Studies.  Helen had a four-decade career as a skilled and highly regarded paralegal at several firms in Washington, DC, New York, and most recently at the Gunster Firm in West Palm Beach, where she was a respected and beloved colleague and friend.

Helen loved many things – music, cycling, travel, reading, her beloved dogs – but she loved her children above all else.  She was deeply devoted to Alex and Joey – their biggest cheerleader.  She was proud of their accomplishments – whether big or small – and wanted the best in life for them – joy, love, adventure, success, contentment, and happiness.

Helen was soft spoken with a light touch, but to those who knew her best, she was formidable – a true force with deep strength and unshakable tenacity.  She was smart and seemed to know something about everything – from building the strategy for a legal case to changing the oil in her car!  Helen was kind, always present and supportive – almost anticipating the needs of those around her.  She was a devoted, trustworthy, loyal family member and friend who knew the importance and value of showing up for those around her – both in good times and in bad.   She had a sly sense of humor and a beautiful, glowing smile.  She wanted the best for everyone and extended herself to others unconditionally. The world is truly a kinder, gentler place because Helen was in it.

Helen faced some measure of adversity over the course of her life, including five bouts with cancer, but always did so with grace, dignity and grit, she was an inspiration to those around her.

Helen is survived by her children, Alex and Joey; her mother, Mary; her sister Deborah Neal and brother-in-law, Tom; her brother Kent and sister-in-law Deedee, and many loving family members and friends.  She was pre-deceased by her father Wilton “Sonny” Watts.

There will be Memorial service in Maryland, June 4th, to celebrate her life; details to follow.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in Helen’s memory can be sent to the Cancer Support Community (https://www.cancersupportcommunity.org).
