John F. Burton Jr. “Fred” age 94 of Royal Palm Beach, Florida passed away on January 23, 2022 at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center.
Fred was born in Manzanillo, Cuba to the late John F and Sarah Burton and raised in Brookline, MA. He spent nearly 40 years in Massachusetts before moving to New Jersey and eventually retiring to Florida. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. After serving his country he started a dry cleaning business. He would eventually sell the business and become an Engineer. During his 40 year career he worked for Exxon, Foster Wheeler and On Board Chemical. Despite leaving the New England area he remained loyal to the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Patriots. Unlike generations of New Englanders, he saw the 2004 Red Sox break the ”Curse of the Bambino” and win the first of four World Championships. His love of hockey kept him on the ice until he was nearly 60 years old. He enjoyed traveling, tinkering with whatever didn’t need to be fixed and spending time with family.
He is predeceased by his wife, Elena Burton, his son John Burton, daughter in law Sandra Burton, his brothers Harold and William and his grandsons Steven Gleeson and Joshua Spada. Fred was lucky in love. After losing his beloved wife he would find love again with Carol Perrine who was with him until the very end.
