Kathleen Cavanagh Obituary

Kathleen Murphy Cavanagh, age 75, resident of Wellington, FL and Jessup, MD, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. Born December 31, 1946 in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of Elizabeth (Bernath) and Edward Murphy. She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Brian; her daughter, Heather and son-in-law Guénolé; her son Brendan and daughter-in-law Leslie; her son Michael; her grandchildren (Lena, Diego, Padrig, and Mari Madalen), and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Faith, family, and friends were always the focal points of Kathy’s life. She dedicated her life to helping others, first as a volunteer in the Peace Corps and subsequently in supporting the work of schools, orphanages, museums, charities, and numerous U.S. Embassies overseas. Kathleen was also very proud of the work she did in Language Services for the Atlanta Olympic Committee in the 1990's. Her family was the most important thing to her: as a steadfast partner of her husband in international humanitarian work and as a mother, devoting her energies tirelessly to making certain that her children had opportunities to succeed.  A singular joy was organizing a yearly family vacation at her beloved Jersey shore. Kathy spent a significant portion of her life overseas and in the process became conversant in several languages, which allowed her to connect with people of different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. She loved meeting new people, engaging with them to learn their stories and experiences and to share her own.

In lieu of flowers to continue to support the humanitarian aid rendered by Kathleen and her husband Brian, the family is asking for your charitable donations to any of the following organizations listed below: Thank you in advance for your charitable contributions.
