Obituary

Louis Chrisphonte

May 22, 1942 - January 23, 2026

Louis “Ti Loulou” Chrisphonte, 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 23, 2026, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Born in Pétion-Ville, Haiti, Ti Loulou was a proud Haitian who valued education and hard work. He attended Jean Marie Guilloux and Saint Louis de Gonzague, later continuing his studies at RCA Institute in New York. His career began as an electrical engineer at Western Electric in New Jersey before returning to Haiti to work at Téléco. Always entrepreneurial, he later started his own phone-system business and became a successful landlord, eventually enjoying a well-earned retirement.

Ti Loulou loved to tell the story of meeting his future wife Nicole Altine when she was just a young girl.  He confidently announced that he would one day marry her. True to his word, they were married on January 3,1967, and built a life together filled with love, laughter, and devotion. They raised three children—Ingrid, Yuri, and Melissa—who were all the pride of his life.

Family meant everything to Ti Loulou. He took great joy in playing with his children and his grandchildren, Leila, Coralie, Dimitri, and little Xavier.  He was known for his playful games such as tapping their foreheads before running around the house, making up silly stories, sprinkling them with lots of humor.

He also had a deep love for boxing and soccer and proudly became a member of  the soccer club Les Piquets in 1970. Evenings often found him reading TIME magazine or enjoying music, especially Frère Déjean, Pedro Vargas, Daniel Santos, and many mariachi melodies.

A typical day for Loulou would consist of listening to Haitian news on his main cell phone, catching worldwide news on an older one, flipping between CNN one minute and soccer the next. The house was never silent as can be imagined. But that was Ti Loulou!

An incredible father, a devoted husband, a playful grandfather, a fun-loving uncle, and a natural jokester, Ti Loulou will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and gentle heart. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will live on in the many lives he touched.

Louis is survived by his older sister, Myrthra Chrisphonte, who he loved so dearly.  He is also survived by his wife, Nicole Altine Chrisphonte, his three children: Ingrid, Yuri, and Melissa; and his four grandchildren: Leila, Coralie, Dimitri and Xavier.
