Mattie Belle Marshall

Mattie Belle Marshall, 79, of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 6, 2024. Born on August 29, 1945, in Hinesville, Georgia, she was the eldest daughter of Henry Brewton, Jr. and Madeline Riley Brewton.
Mattie attended Savannah State College before moving to Temple Hills, Maryland, where she devoted herself to raising her family. Known affectionately as the “neighborhood mom,” her home was always open to her children’s friends, offering warmth and a welcoming atmosphere. Her love for children extended beyond her family, and she turned her passion for nurturing young minds into a dedicated career in education.
Mattie dedicated over 20 years to the Prince George’s County School System, beginning her journey as a volunteer in the DC Public School System. Her passion for nurturing young minds led her to become the Director of the Before and After Care Program at Samuel Chase Elementary School, where she made a lasting impact on the lives of countless children. Mattie retired in 2006, leaving behind a legacy of love, care, and unwavering dedication to the students and families she served.
Mattie’s kindness, generosity, and warmth were cherished by her family, friends, fellow educators, and the countless young people she inspired. Her impact reached far beyond her community, extending throughout the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area and beyond.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Warren A. Williams III, her parents, Henry and Madeline Brewton, her brothers, Henry Brewton III (Junior), Bobby L. Brewton, and her sisters, Lillis V. Epps and Della A. Brewton.
Mattie is survived by her loving husband, Thomas Marshall, Jr. of Royal Palm Beach, Florida; her children, Warren M. Williams (Martin L. Fitts) of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, Keisha L. Williams of Waldorf, Maryland, and Kareem A. Williams (Jowan M. Williams) of Temple Hills, Maryland; her sister, Margarett A. Sneed (Lee Martin Sneed) of Ft. Washington, Maryland; stepchildren, Derek Marshall, Chiquita L. Dixson (Eric Dixson), Teeka M. Rush, Jeffrey Carroll (Charlene Carroll), and Jermaine Carroll (Zabel Carroll); two grandsons, two granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter; many step-grandchildren; and a host of friends and extended family.
A service to honor Mattie’s life will take place November 8, 2024, at 11:00 am at Central Baptist Church of Camp Springs located at 5600 Old Branch Avenue, Temple Hills, MD. Repast to follow.
