Miriam Colon Morales Obituary

Miriam Colon Morales 1940-2021

Thank you to all friends, family, and extended family for all the support and prayers. Mom passed away on Saturday morning November 27,2021. I was blessed to have been able to speak to her the morning before she passed. My sister, Wanda, had celebrated Thanksgiving with her the days prior. Mom is survived by four children, thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Miriam (or "Mami") was an amazing woman. Born in Puerto Rico, she came to the states with very little as a single mom to make a better life for her children. She lived a very humble life and loved her family deeply. She lived in Brooklyn, NY initially with the support of family. She also moved to Arizona and Seattle before finally settling down in Florida. From the little that she had, she would always share what she had with the people she loved. She loved life and sharing moments with family and friends. Her door was always open, and she was always happy to put on a pot of coffee and share a piece of Cuban bread. Her walls are covered with pictures of all her loved ones and adventures. Mom’s grandkids would relate this part of her character to one of the words used in a Disney movie favorite, Lilo and Stitch. The word, Ohana - means “family." No one gets left behind or forgotten, and that we all take care of each other no matter our relationship. Mom was my sidekick and always loved having a good laugh and creating mischief. Every time I would prepare to return home after a visit, she would scour her house for gifts to send back to my wife Daisy. Leaving with a gift from her house was something she always insisted on when anyone came over for a visit. The final gift that she presented to us is her loving memory.

As an alternative to sending flowers, we have created a Go Fund Me page to help defer some of the costs of Mom’s funeral expenses. https://gofund.me/d01d0274
