**Obituary for Monica E. Farquharson**

Monica Farquharson, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, was born on January 4, 1947, in Woodlands, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, W.I., to her late mother, Joyce Brown Beckford. She peacefully transitioned from this life, surrounded by love and family, on August 30, 2025. Monica attended Beersheba All Age School from 1954 to 1962. Her early career began at the international airport, where her love for people shone through in all she did.

On May 29, 1966, she gave birth to her only daughter, Charaton, who became her closest companion and confidante. Monica also nurtured and raised her niece, Marcia Beckford, from an early age, cherishing her as a daughter. Known for her heart of service, Monica devoted many years to caring for the Redway family, who became dear lifelong friends. Eventually, her entrepreneurial spirit led her to open her own business in the Negril Craft Market, where she delighted tourists with her vibrant presence, unforgettable laugh, and quick one-liners.

In June 1998, Monica migrated to Brooklyn, New York, to be with her daughter, Charaton. That same year, she enrolled at the Allen School of Health Sciences, where she earned her state certification as a Home Health Aide. Caring for others was her true calling, and she embraced it wholeheartedly with kindness and dedication. In 2000, after learning of her uncle’s illness, Monica relocated to Florida to care for him. She recertified in Florida and continued her heartfelt career as a caregiver, providing comfort and dignity to those in their final days.

Monica’s greatest joy was her family. The bond between her and her daughters was unbreakable, as they spoke with one another countless times each day. Her role as a grandmother brought her immense pride, and her grandson, Shamar, lovingly cared for her during her final days—just as she had always cared for him and for her granddaughter, Saidah.

Monica was predeceased by her siblings Palone, Marcella, Alva, Clarence, and Nathanial Beckford. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved daughter, Charaton Lindsay; her niece, whom she raised as a daughter, Marcia Beckford; her grandchildren, Shamar Nichols and Saidah Watkins; her great-grandchildren, Kimora, Chloe, Alani, and Shai’la Rose Nichols; her siblings, Everetta, Delvis, Petroline, and Claudette; and a host of family and friends who will carry her memory in their hearts.

Monica will always be remembered for her infectious laugh, outspoken charm, deep compassion, and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy is one of love, care, and a life devoted to helping.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Monica’s life, honoring the profound love and joy she brought to their world. The arrangements for her service and care have been entrusted to Lakeside Funeral Home & Cremation Care, ensuring her final journey is handled with the same dignity and respect that she afforded others.
