MYRIAM GERSTEN

1940 - 2022

Myriam Gersten, 81, of West Palm Beach, FL transcended this life on April 27, 2022, with family by her side.

She was born to the late Eustacio Ligardo Camacho and Sol Maria Castillo De Ligardo, May 25, 1940 in Villa Nueva, Colombia. Myriam moved to New York in 1973. While in New York, she met the love of her life at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where he was a language professor and taught her English.

She was married to Gerald Gersten on February 14, 1977, and they lived in New York until relocating to Palm Beach, FL in 1988. Myriam is survived by her daughter, Kerry Gersten, son-in-law, William Worley, step-daughter, Louise Sampson, and siblings: Gladys, Osiris, Fanny, Ruben, Evelyn, Amaury, Manuel, Ana Cleotilde, Javier, and Sol Maria Ligardo. Myriam was predeceased by her husband in 2000, her eldest daughter, Christine Gersten, in 2016, and her siblings, Oscar in 2010 and Eustacio in 2016.

Myriam grew up in a large family and as one of the eldest, helped raise her younger siblings. Being a part of an extensive, close-knit family shaped her into who she became, a woman that valued time spent with family and loved ones above all else. She was in her element when she was surrounded by family with music and laughter while enjoying a party of dancing and celebration. She raised two strong, independent daughters and loved cooking their favorite meals for them. Throughout their childhoods, she would happily make any sacrifice necessary to ensure her daughters had everything they ever needed. Her passion throughout life was sewing and designing clothes. As a child she sewed dresses for her dolls, as a young adult she studied design and as a widow, she opened her own boutique creating dresses and performing alterations.

A visitation service will take place on Monday, May 2, 2022 at Lakeside Funeral Home Life Celebration Suite from 8AM - 10AM. 

A Funeral Mass will commence immediately after the visitation service from 11AM - 12PM at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church located at: 345 S. Military Trail, West Palm Beach, FL. 33415
