“I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter.” - Winston Churchill
Philip John Ashton (Phil) passed away peacefully at his home in West Palm Beach, Florida at the age of 79 on Saturday, November 20, 2021. Born February 10, 1942 in New York, NY to Vincent J. Ashton and Edith F. Ashton (O’Brien), Phil grew up in Queens as the oldest of six siblings. After completing his education, he served his country by enlisting in the US Air Force. An accomplished runner of track, bowler and skier, it was that last passion that led him to meet an even greater one - Mary Alosco. Shortly thereafter, he convinced her of the idea of becoming Mary Ashton and on May 10, 1968, began the first of 53 years of a wonderful marriage.
Phil enjoyed a distinguished career as a Certified Financial Planner with MassMutual spanning over 5 decades. He helped countless families plan for financial security in life and after death. He believed in what he did and did it passionately and with integrity, leading to his success. A multiple times over Million Dollar Roundtable award recipient, the past president of the LI Institute of Financial Planners and the co-founder of the Family Business Center at Stonybrook University, Phil was an active member of the business community and mentored numerous agents as they embarked on successful careers of their own.
Survived by his devoted and loving wife Mary J. Ashton of West Palm Beach FL, “Mary and Phil” shared 53 beautiful years together. He was “Dad” to his 4 children: Philip J Ashton II, and his wife Jennifer (Pillion); Donna M. Ashton; Vincent C. Ashton and his wife Joanna (Matos); and Michael R. Ashton and his wife Trish (Marraty); and “Pop Pop” to 11 wonderful grandchildren: Philip John III, Benjamin, Sister Margaret Andrew, Nicholas, Donovan, Hunter, River, Dylan, Max, Charlotte and Maia Jean. He is also survived by his five siblings: brothers Mickey, Richard, John, Bobby and sister Patricia Norton, and countless nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and friends.
