RICHARD "DICK" EVENSON
September 29, 1937- October 5, 2022
Richard “Dick” M. Evenson, 85, of Wellington, Florida passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at The Club at Wellington in Wellington, Florida. He was born on September 29,1937 in Soldier, Iowa to the late Conrad and Alvina (Hanson) Evenson. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dianna (Lea) M. Evenson. Richard was a 1959 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan where he met his wife. He married Dianna Marie Lea at the First Methodist Church in Fairbury, Nebraska on August 2, 1959. Dick and Di celebrated 55 years of marriage. Dianna passed away in January 2015.
Richard was an elite athlete most of his life. He played on the House of David professional baseball team during his college years and was inducted into the hall of fame for golf, baseball, and basketball through Nebraska Wesleyan University. He loved golf and throughout his life he played competitive golf and won several golf championships at Harbour Trees Golf Club in Noblesville, IN, Wildcat Run Golf & Country Club, Estero, Florida, and River Hall Country Club in Ft. Myers, Florida. In 1990 he played the US Senior Open at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, New Jersey. He lead the tournament in the first round replacing Jack Nicklaus at the top of the leaderboard after 14 holes. He was board president at Harbour Trees for several years and his efforts brought the Indiana golf course acclaim, including the hosting of the LPGA Mayflower Classic from 1977-1980.
Dick was very successful selling credit life to banks for I.A.C. throughout most of his career. He enjoyed time with friends but loved his family and always made special efforts to connect with his children and grandchildren. Richard is survived by his sister, Margaret (Mike) McGowan of Lincoln, Nebraska, daughter, Shauna (Wayne) Sebasty of Wildwood, Mo; daughter, Nicole (Paul) Ross of Wellington, Florida; and son, Mark (Mimi) Evenson of Ellicott City, Maryland: six grandchildren, Evan Sebasty, Mitchell Evelyn, Julia Sebasty, Nicholas (Pamela) Evelyn, Hannah Evenson, and Grant Evenson. Richard was also survived by his partner for the last 5 years, Nina Sebastian.
The family will hold a private funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
